As a result, the Wits Foundation was established in 1978 as a Public Benefit Organisation
to collect and administer donations for the benefit of the University. A Board of Governors and Trustees, appointed by the University Council, manages the Wits Foundation.
All donations are exempt from donations tax and are tax deductible in terms of Section 30 of the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962 as amended from time to time.
In 2006, the fundraising aspect of the Wits Foundation separated to form the Development & Fundraising Office (DFO).
With only one goal in mind – that of maintaining the standards of academic excellence for which the University has become famous – the DFO assists in seeking donations and sponsorships for the development of research projects, funding for scholarships, bursaries and supplementation of staff remuneration, and for infrastructure development, refurbishment and equipment.
None of this would be possible without the support of people like you.
Last year, donations to Wits amounted to
R145 470 133.
Whether your contribution is large or small, please consider making your investment in the future of our university today.
