Professor Rob Moore – Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement & Partnerships
When he graduated from King Edward VII School in Johannesburg in 1972, little did Prof. Rob Moore know that he would dedicate a considerable portion of his life to spearheading academic development and institutional advancement in the education sector.
Moore joined Wits University in 2006 as Director: Strategic Planning. “I take pleasure in being associated with Wits – an institution that promotes public intellectual engagement and that creates debate on relevant issues in the public sphere,” he says.
Aside from managing its strategic development projects, Moore directs the activities of the central planning and budgeting committee and participates in financial and physical planning. Moore has also served as the Acting Director of the Development and Fundraising Office in 2007. |

Clare graduated from Wits in 1974 and worked in Johannesburg before raising her three children in Cape Town. She returned to work in the NGO field (Cancer Association of South Africa and CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation) but developed a strong preference for Higher Education Institutions with posts at the Universities of Cape Town, Stellenbosch and, most recently, Oxford.
With wide experience in the corporate, trusts and foundations and private donor sectors, Clare looks forward to building further capacity and depth in these areas in the DFO. [More] |

Adanma Yisa – Bequest and Individual Donor Development Officer

Adanma relocated from the UK to South Africa and joined the DFO in December 2011. She has varied international experience across both the private and public sectors. Having begun her career as a graduate intern in the UK Cabinet Office, Adanma moved onto communication roles in Local Government. Her private sector experience includes business development at Citi Private Bank in New York City and organizational development roles at Barclays Wealth and VTB Capital Investment Bank in London.
Adanma studied Law with Politics (BA, Hons) at The University of Manchester and has completed University of Cambridge International Examination modules in Marketing and Managing Information. |

Benjamin Seitlhamo – Projects and Proposal Officer

Benjamin has a wealth of project management and fundraising experience. He was previously Projects Coordinator at the Southern Africa Trust, which he joined in 2007. Before that he was a tutor in the Wits Department of Sociology.
He is a Wits graduate with BA Honours in Development Studies. Born and raised in Soweto, he is passionate about education and mobilising funds for community development and upliftment projects. He also loves sports and international politics. |

Charmaine Pretorius – Information Systems Support Manager

Charmaine has been with the DFO on a permanent basis since 2001. In her position as Information Systems Support Manager she is responsible for ensuring that the IT requirements for all staff are met and that all the computers and systems are kept in good working order.

Delores MacKenzie – Senior Secretary

Delores started working at Wits in the School of Electronic and Information Engineering in 1996. She then worked for the Deputy Registrar for 3 years and joined the DFO in November 2008 as Senior Secretary to the Director.
Delores sees the DFO as an exciting and challenging environment.

Gerhard von Gruenewaldt (Dr) – Research Funding Advisor

Gerhard is a private consultant and has been part-time advisor to the University of the Witwatersrand since April 2005. His main task is to stimulate and facilitate research and research funding, and he liaises closely with the DVC (Research) Professor Belinda Bozzoli in this regard.
As the former Vice-President of the National Research Foundation of South Africa, Gerhard was responsible for all grant funding activities as well as science outreach facilities, such as the SA Agency for Science and Technology Advancement and the National Zoological Gardens.
Gerhard says that “working closely with many academics from all disciplines is a most rewarding and stimulating task and the depth and breadth of expertise vested in the various faculties is impressive.” |

Jonathan Gill – Corporate Trust & Foundation Development Officer

Jonathan has worked with some large international foundations, companies and government bodies to secure the success of many projects. Most recently with the National Society for the Prevention Cruelty to Children, he also has experience developing key projects and funding equipment at King’s College London’s Teaching Hospital.
Jonathan completed a degree in Psychology before embarking on his career, and is delighted to work for Wits at such an important time in the University’s history. |

Kamal Bhagwandas Jogibhai – Research Manager

Kamal comes from the Academic Planning Office, where he worked for almost six years on academic planning, quality assurance, academic developments and policy comment. Previous posts at Wits include: Academic Information Systems Unit, International Office Faculty of Humanities, and the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
He has a BA, BA Hons, PGDip Arts, PDM all from Wits and is currently busy with a MEd, which focuses on Higher Education and the increase in Quality Assurance interventions within the context of the academic freedom, institutional autonomy and public accountability debate. |

Dr 'Mamosa Mahlala – Senior Research Officer

‘Mamosa has spent several years in scientific research, which resulted in her obtaining a BSc. Degree and an MSc. and PhD in Biotechnology. She has worked at several research institutes such as The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the University of the Free State. She has also worked in the property and construction industry. while working towards completing a Master of Business and leadership (MBL) with UNISA.
She now believes that being at the DFO is the best position for her since she has both an understanding of the academic world and the business world. |

Maria Shardelow – Donations Administrator

Maria started with Wits in February 1997 when she worked for the Salaries Department and then transferred to the Foundation.
She handles all finances relating to donations and liaises with Wits’ Project Managers, Deans and Business managers on a daily basis.
Maria says: “I enjoy being part of the successful team in the DFO. The process of acknowledging and notifying academics about the donations received is really satisfying”. |

Martha Molete – Capital Campaign Manager

Martha has a variety of communication, media relations, advocacy, educational and fundraising skills that have assisted in a number of campaigns. Her main focus at Wits is generating support and mobilizing resources for big buildings and the sterling research and teaching that takes place inside these structures to build knowledge and skills for the future of South Africa.
Martha is a Wits alumna (MA in History), and has a Higher Education Diploma from UNISA and a BA from Carleton University. |

After 25 years in the Arts, Melanie Keartland – former head of Wits Theatre – has decided to try something new.
“They say that your mid forties are a good time to re-invent yourself, ” she explains.
A Wits graduate, Melanie interviewed for the position of Capital Campaign Manager in September 2010 – “It was a long shot for me,” she says. “As I don’t really know the field, I was not sure if my skill set would fit.” Well apparently it did and Melanie is now a respected member of the team. |

In her position as Administrative Assistant she is responsible for all aspects relating to Creditors in order to facilitate an efficient process between the DFO and the University.

Suraiya joined the DFO in July 2008. She manages the proposal writing process to maximize private sector support for the institution.
Suraiya came to us from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where she spent 16 years in both the support and academic sectors. She has a BSocSc(Hons) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and is currently completing the LLM in Health Law at Wits.

Tshepiso Rambau – Research Officer

Tshepiso comes from the Wits Health Consortium (HERO) Health Economics Research Office which is part of Boston University. She has been involved in various research projects in and outside Wits University dealing with the research cycle from conceptualization, statistical analysis, interpretation, monitoring and evaluation to Report Writing.
She has BA and BA Hons in Clinical Psychology from the University of Limpopo and is currently studying for a Masters in Research Psychology also from UL, focusing on concepts and management of alcohol problems by traditional healers in the Limpopo Province. |
